The Lord Way Up There
I wrote this poem on 10/24/2024.
I pray to look up and up
When I’m weakened and weary
Of life in the rough
When I’m worn in the dreary
Up and up in the clouds so fair
To drown in a mist with only you there
I long to be there with you in that place
Where I’m never left wanting
No, nothing to chase
Where the thoughts and the cares of this
Life are a waste
I long for the quiet, your infinite grace
Oh to be swallowed by power and care
Where nothing else matters but a sweep of your hair
To be wrapped like a newborn swaddled in Grace
To be loved by your mercies your tender embrace
I don’t want to sound like an ungrateful life
I suffer the quake, yet You carry my strife
I don’t want to live no, I don’t want to die
I want to be taken by you way up high
To live as a stitch in Your coat tails I’d be
So satisfied, No, I don’t need a thing
I don’t need a drink, I don’t need to eat
I’m fine at your coat tails that flow at your feet
I know it sounds bad but when I was there
In your coat tails above in your grace in your fair
The thought of my life and my family, my cares
Disappeared in your light, I got lost in Your glare
So bright, I felt weak, like I didn’t exist
So feeble, so small, but an atom in bliss
But I mattered to you more than any of this
Just a thread in your coat, so small just a stitch
The treasure you give, not weighed or compared
To the cares of this life no, your power out there
If I never set foot in this life, not again
No loss would occur, but a gain you would lend
Alas, I am here
I’m drowning in cares
Of this life so far down
Oh the contrasted flares
Of sin waging death
I’m weak with the glares
I’m losing the sight
Of the peace way up there
Alas, I am here
My God, it’s not fair
I want to go back where I felt not a care
Like I didn’t exist but the wisp of your hair
Where you swept me along in Your light and the glare
The pain of this life sometimes too much bare
For I was the stitch in your coattails to wear
Alas I am here
Where the world doesn’t care
For the love that you give
Not knowing the glare
Of your infinite light
The glimpse way up there
That you gave me the sight
Of your glory compared
I pray to look up and up
When I’m weakened and weary
Of life in the rough
When I’m worn in the dreary
Up and up in the clouds so fair
To drown in a mist with only you there
I pray to look up
And remember to dare
To live in a world
Where they don’t seem to care
To live in the glimpse of the glory you shared
Lord I pray keep my eyes
Upon you way up there
